Decatur is a unique city found just northeast of Downtown Atlanta. Decatur is home to Emory University, Agnes Scott College, and much of the Dekalb County Government. Decatur has its own Downtown with a variety of restaurants, shops, and businesses within walking distance of the courthouse and other landmarks. Influenced by the colleges, the Decatur area is a home for arts and culture, and the local public schools are well respected.
Home values in Decatur vary greatly by area. Neighborhoods in north Decatur like University Heights can sell in the $200k's, while homes in Winnona Park sell in the $500k's. Leafmore Hills, Sagamore Hills, and Druid Hills are areas with home prices up to and over $1 million.
Decatur and the surrounding areas like Oakhurst, and Virginia Highlands provide an "intown" feel with all of the conveniences of the city within reach. Though downtown is a short commute away, you might find plenty to do without leaving Decatur.
